Dr. Khoa Tran is a Postdoctoral Researcher within the Medical Genomics Group at QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute. He possesses a unique career trajectory that spans both academia and the private sectors, having previously worked as a Machine Learning Engineer at Australian startups specialising in the application of AI to precision medicine. In these roles, he focused on building and deploying cloud-based AI systems to solve complex challenges in oncology.
Khoa earned his PhD from QUT and QIMRB, where he specialised in multi-omic machine learning for cancer outcome prediction. His research is highly regarded internationally, with first-author publications in premier journals including Nature Communications and Genome Medicine. Notably, his first-author review in Genome Medicine on the applications of deep learning in precision oncology has become a widely recognised reference in the field, garnering nearly 1,000 citations. His current research focuses on integrating multi-modal data – genomic, transcriptomic, and histology – to improve clinical outcomes for cancer patients.
